May 2006

…it pours.

My family is enjoying a nice little vaction down at the beach right now. We got down here Wednesday night, staying in a great condo provided by my aun. :) Add the craziness of that kind of trip to the fact that we're trying to sell our house and buy another one… yeah, it's kinda busy.

But then my great-grandmother's health went downhill suddenly. She's been ill with a long-term illness for quite a while, but things took a sudden downturn early this week.

Just got the call here at the beach that she has passed away. I'm not too affected, I wasn't ever very close to her due to her illness – a little loud music and I'm fine.

My parents are out of the condo at the moment so I'm not sure how they will take it – especially my dad (it's his grandmother).

We plan to complete our trip as planned, we should return home sometime Sunday.

Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say,

It is well, it is well, with my soul.

So… Angels and Airwaves is pretty much rocking my existence right now.

I'm headed out shortly – I'm gonna get lunch, run to the bank, out to Best Buy and then to a customer's house to fix their computer.

That is all.

Nothing really exciting happened today, so I haven't really been on here.

Played way too much Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance. My brain is failing – ugh.

Our house is now officially on the market – scary. :)

Maybe I'll be interesting tomorrow. :)

So I got back from the party less than an hour ago – had a really, really great time!

Setup an XBox with a projector pointed at the wall, though I declined to play on that setup.

I had my big old desktop gaming rig setup, playing Halo versus one of the other guys who brought his rig – it was a ton of fun.

Played for a good while and then backed off and let one of my friends play Half-Life 2 on the machine. Then I got back on it and borrowed another friend's copies of Metal Gear Solid 2 and Spiderman 2 – can't wait to play those two. :)

Had lots of pizza, lots of soda, lots of gaming fun, really good time!

So that's my last contact with the college until the summer semester starts on the 23rd of this month. :)

Other stuff:

- Mom and dad are working on the buying/selling paperwork for this house and the one we're looking at.

- I'm going to setup/secure a wireless network on Friday, more on that after the fact. :)

As a friend reminded me the other night – “patience is a virtue”

I must not be very virtuous. I’m waiting for mom to return with the car so I can pack it up and leave for this evening’s party.

Free pizza, free caffeine, tons of gaming, this should rock.

So, I had typed out this whole long post about my day thus far and hit "Publish" and WordPress was having some downtime and rejected my post, but didn't save any changes of course.

There's my daily reminder of why I usually hate web-based apps I guess. (Except GMail of course, GMail rocks.)

So now, WordPressDash to the rescue.
It's hardly perfect, but it does a pretty good job, especially for a flippin' dashboard widget!

Anyways, what was I saying about my day, before bad things happened…

I got to sleep in this morning – didn't get out of bed until 9. :)

Got up, messed around on the internet for a while, played some Halo versus my brother. Ate some awesome coffee cake my sister was nice enough to make. :) Then started cleaning, cleaned up my room, moved my computer and cleaned up my desk. Got some reminders on why I don't like to clean, two primary reasons:

  1. I'm lazy
  2. I have some evil dust allergies, my eyes are still killing me

Yepp. Argh. Anyways.

So now I'm just chilling, listening to music, etc.

Mostly I'm just killing time until this evening. :) Last night I wrote myself a little list of things for the party tonight, it went something like this:

  • Rig (My big machine)
  • Powerbook
  • Speakers
  • Ethernet cables
  • !! STOP AND GET SOME CAFFEINE !!

Yepp, tonight should be fun. :) I'll update on that when I get back tonight.

As far as a possible move for my family, my mom is leaving now to get the paperwork to put our house on the market. She and dad will probably fill that out tonight and then things will really get interesting.

I'll try keep this place updated. :)

I don't usually watch much TV, but this evening we turned it on to watch NOVA | Hitler's Sunken Secret on PBS; it was really quite a good show, very interesting. :)

Next up was FRONTLINE/WORLD Inside Hamas – pretty interesting, they were of course hardly pro-Israel in their coverage, not that I expected them to be. After the main FRONTLINE story were two mini-stories, an incredible piece on a Chopin-centered piano competition (Unbelievably talented pianists, wow.) and then a great bit about this fellow building "The Play Pump" – really inspiring.

All of this was enjoyed on our relatively new digital TV – I'm awestruck by the picture quality every time we turn it on. :)

So, we sit down at dinner tonight and mom announces "Well, it looks like we're gonna put our house on the market – for real this time."

For those of you who don't know me or don't know this, we've been going back and forth with the idea of moving for quite a while. We're staying in this city (Dad's job, our schooling, etc.) but we've had some serious issues with our current location (Mostly issues with neighbors.) and it looks like this time it might be for real.

Mom and dad went out and looked at a house this evening and thought it was great – location, size, condition, etc.

I'll keep you all updated on this. :)

What’s on my calendar:

Tomorrow (Wednesday) at 5PM I have an end-of-semester party to attend. (A group I am part of at the college is hosting the party; nice of them, yeh? :) )

Sometime in the latter half of this week I’ll be doing a wireless security setup, more on that when available.

This week and next I’m wrapping up my schoolwork from my junior year of highschool.

Taking a nice little beach vacation with the family the 17th-21st.

College summer semester starts the 23rd.

I think that’s about it, as far as I know. More updates as events warrant. :)

…Because I'm starting a(nother) blog.

I've had blogs in the past, but they generally go inactive. Sometimes it's because I lose interest in the primary focus of that blog, other times it's because certain people start breathing down my digital neck and I don't feel I can talk about what I want to talk about – there are other reasons too, I'm sure.

There are really two main reasons I don't blog:
1) I don't have the time, I'm really quite busy.
2) Few interesting (or at least blog-worthy) things happen in my life.

I'd say those are two pretty good reasons, so I don't really know why I've started this blog.

Ok, yes, I do. The spring semester has ended, the summer semester has yet to begin, and I'm bored out of my skull.

I know there's really no excuse for that, an enterprising young man like myself should be able to find something to do – right? RIGHT?

Mk.. yeah.

Anybody have any pet programming projects they want help on for the next two weeks?
