I just noticed that this blog was still listed as my website on my Twitter account page. Clicked through and pondered how long it has been since I updated.
The reason I don’t update more? Well, it’s a lot of reasons, but for the most part I don’t make time. I’m a full-time college student, a part-time employee, and I also enjoy just relaxing from time to time.
Another reason I rarely make a regular habit of blogging is that most of the time I don’t feel that I have anything positive or important to add to the noise in the blogosphere. And, considering Eric Schmidt’s estimate of one reader per blog on the internet, is the effort I put into this post really worth the one person who will peruse it?
This post is really kind of recursive too, looking at it – it’s pointless, it communicates nothing of use or that is enriching to the reader – what is the redeeming quality of this post?
OK, so, Web2.0 is supposed to be about dialogue right? So, if you’ve made it this far, I’ll bite – Why do you blog? Sound off in the comments, you singular reader you.

I blog because it’s right up there with organizing the spice cabinet and scrubbing the grout in the shower when it’s the day before an exam.

Well, since this is the second comment, that blows Eric Schmidt out of the water. Besides, his stats are skewed by the fact that “readers” and “blog” are tough to estimate. For one thing, there are millions on top of millions of abandoned blogs.
Why do I blog? Because I love to write my thoughts down. I currently blog in many locations – each for their own reasons – and I really enjoy the craft of writing and I love to either start or continue conversations.
There is a lot of noise on the Internet, as you’ve said – but you speaking to whomever chooses to read your thoughts isn’t considered noise, it should be considered opinion.

Don’t sell yourself short. Jerry Seinfeld did pretty well with his little “show about nothing.” James Lileks (www.lileks.com) has made a career out of observing ephemera.
I thought I had no readers on my infrequently-updataed blog, too. That is, until I started using Twitter, Tweeted a few shameless plugs, and put a FeedJit map on the blog. Was I ever surprised. I’m pretty sure I know who the readers in Moose Jaw and Saskatoon are. But wonder who in Germany and Ireland is looking?

My curiosity and the mere fact that we share the same name led me to click your link when I was searching for my blog. Most people dubbed with the name “Josiah” seem pretty cool… must be a parenting thing.

Wow. Five comments now.
I blog to share ideas with other librarians, but I also have a “secret” blog to use as a writing outlet for all those little things that happen in life that could be funny, sad, or interesting for other people to read about, but that would clutter up a semi-professional blog. That secret blog has very few readers (probably no more than 7 or 8), but it’s still my outlet. I write it for me.
